Our aim

We as Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Shanghai Pudong Lujiazui aiming to make a difference in our community in Shanghai and serve worldwide, as part of Rotary International. We handel all our Club activities in a manner fully compliant with the new NGO and Charity laws of the P.R. China. 

Ongoing and past projects

2018 / 2019
President: Henry Chang

  1. Education of Gilrs in Rural China (Flagship Project)
    In 2018 RC-LJZ sponsors 5 young students. This project will be effective from December 2018 and the scholarship will be provided throughout 3-4 years.

    • Background
      • Educating Girls of Rural China is a registered Canadian charity. Established in 2005, EGRC became legalized in China in 2017.
      • EGRC’s belief is educated women have educated children. EGRC’s mission is to provide financial sponsorship and emotional support to young women from poverty stricken rural regions of Western China to receive high school and university educations. EGRC provides further opportunities to these women who have the potential to become the future female leaders that China needs.
    • Programs
      • Sponsor female students’ four- or five-year undergraduate studies at Chinese universities
      • Sponsor female students’ three-year high school studies
      • Assist EGRC university graduates with enrollment in graduate programs at international universities
      • Provide further training, internship, and career opportunities for university graduates
    • Success & Impact
      • Since 2005, over 800 young women have received sponsorships
      • 111 young women have graduated from high school
      • 366 young women have graduated from university
      • Students have achieved a graduation rate of above 99%
      • Among university graduates, about 50% are working in their home provinces, and 100% of their families have been lifted out of poverty
      • Many EGRC university graduates are paying it forward by mentoring current students, donating, and volunteering and speaking at fundraising events; alumnae involvement is the foundation of EGRC’s sustainability
    • Selection and Monitoring Process
      • Eligible students selected for sponsorship come from families that meet at least one of four criteria:
        ● Orphan (lost both parents)
        ● Single-parent families with multiple children
        ● Families with parent (s) unable to earn income due to illness or injury
        ● Families with multiple children in high school or university
        .
  2. Support the homeless in Ukraine
    Donation of funds to provide the firewood for homeless in winter time of 2018
    Project carried out through “New Generation” NGO based in Ukraine at the end of October.

  3. California Fire
    Donation of USD2000 has been provided to the Paradise Club and more information on the use will get updated.
    DDF will help to provide more supports during this difficult time for people in that area.

  4. Medical Support – Acquisition of 3 Dialysis Machines
    Donation of USD5,000 for the acquisition of 3 Dialysis machines for a hospital in Rachaburi province South West of Thailand; an hour drive from Bangkok.
    Project hosted by the Rotary Club of Bangkok Pattanakarn. This project will save the life of 2000 people who need this CKD treatment with another potential of 10,000 people at risk according to the current data available from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.

  5. Participation in Qinghai Trees Planting
    Donation of 10,000RMB to plant 2,000 trees, starting on 21.04.2019.
    2,000 trees will cover about 20 mu (13,334 sq.m) of desert. The goal is to restore grassland ecosystems and contribute toward a sustainable community livelihood

  6. Sponsoring of Shanghai Butterfly Football Cup
    Sponsorship of Soccer Tournament.
    Goal is to support children with Epydermoysis Bullosa Disease (rare genetic disorder leading to extremely fragile skins). Care is not yet reimbursed by social security system. Soccer tournament on April 14th with over 500 participants aims to raise awareness and funds.

2017 / 2018

    • Community Center Shanghai, Giving Tree Project (Community)
      Each year, Giving Tree aims to create “Future Giving Trees”, children in need who have been inspired by the generosity shown to them in the form of a gift bag full of winter clothes and school supplies (link). We have committed to donating 80 bags

  • 100% Paul Harris Fellowship (Club)
    The Rotarary Foundation (link) supports Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. Following the success of last terms donation rally for Polio eradication, the Club aims to become a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club, i.e. each member of the Club will have donated 1,000USD to The Rotary Foundation.
  • Further projects
    The annual service project plan will be discussed and released in September 2017. This years goal is to carry out four projects in four different avenues of service.

2016 / 2017

  • MifanMama Indy Wheels Project (Community)
    Indy Wheels provides individual mobility aids, such as customized wheel chairs, to people in need, sponsored by MifanMama (link). Our Club has helped to raise 40.000RMB for Indy Wheels (blog).
  • The Rotary Foundation and Fight to End Polio (International)
    The Rotarary Foundation (link) supports Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. In the Foundations Centennial Year of 2017, our Club has contributed 50% of the China Districts donations to End Polio Now (link) and has the highest per Capita giving to the Foundation in the District.
  • Club Fellowship (Club)
    Fellowship is an important part of our Club live. We have created a number of regular events, such as family brunch and BBQ, as well as other events to bring our members closer together and enjoy the fellowship. We have had 5 special events outside the regular meeting scheduls in this term.

2015/2016

  • Interact Club (Youth)
    Our first project was the sponsoring of the Interact Club of Pudong Foreign Language High School in May 2016.  This group of enthusiastic and talented youngsters have gotten off to a great start at their school.
  • Building the Club (Club)
    As newly chartered Club, we have built our Club, in particular our internal structure and our public appearance, i.e. our website and social media accounts.

Rotary Avenues of Service

  • Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development .
  • Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society.
  • Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest.
  • International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more.
  • Youth Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Rotary Youth Exchange.
